We've got you covered.
Requesting forbearance on your student loans means you can postpone or reduce your monthly payments for a certain period.
Here's What A Forbearance Does:
-
Receive a reduced payment price point
-
Payment period postponed/extended
-
Allows you more time to recover financially
-
Makes your loan current, getting you out of the late payment cycle
Here's What To Keep In Mind With Forbearance:
-
Forbearance is temporary, only for a set period of time.
-
Credit bureau still records previously past due payments
-
You’re still liable to pay the accrued interest on your loans for the affected months
-
Loans will capitalize if you don’t pay interest - If you can, continue to pay interest.

Step 2: The Request
This is important.
The second half of the first page has you detail out the reasons for your forbearance request.
Please fill this out.
Explain why you are requesting a forbearance.
Remember, you are a borrower of a federal student loan. Most lenders don't allow postponement of payment. So the fact the government allows a short window in time to push payments off is a great resource, but they need to make sure you have a good reason for this forbearance request.
